Make straighter teeth a reality for you
Clear aligners are the closest thing to an ‘invisible’ way of straightening your teeth. Very different from braces, this type of orthodontic treatment does not use metal brackets or wires but instead works to straighten your teeth through a series of clear and removable plastic aligners.
Clear orthodontic aligner therapy is commonly known by the brand names of the companies who produce the aligners, such as Invisalign®. This orthodontic treatment is suitable for those with crooked, crowded teeth or teeth with obvious gaps between them. Clear aligners are also suitable for those who have had braces in the past, yet their teeth are moving back to being crooked once more.
Once you have raised concerns with your National Dental Care dentist about the alignment of your teeth, they will then discuss the benefits of Invisalign® with you.
When did Invisalign® start?
The first use of clear aligners began in 1945, but it took until 1999 before the technology had evolved enough for something as sophisticated as Invisalign to be introduced.
Meanwhile metal braces were not cosmetically appealing, subtle or comfortable. They required a change of diet, constant and diligent tooth-cleaning, and the painful treatment could take several years to work.
Fortunately Invisalign aligners now offer major improvements over braces as they are removable for eating and cleaning. They are almost invisible in use and far more comfortable with no metal brackets to irritate the inside of your mouth.
Is Invisalign® right for me?
Invisalign® can treat a variety of different cases, check out to see if your bite fits in with one of the possible scenarios below or get in touch directly with one of National Dental Care’s Dentist for an assessment.
What’s involved in an Invisalign® treatment?
If you decide to take this course of treatment, bite impressions or scans will be taken and sent to the manufacturer of the aligners. A series of aligners will be created using 3D computer-generated imaging (CGI) technology. A virtual treatment plan will also be created, so that you can see a projection of how your teeth will look at the end of treatment.
A set of aligners will be sent to your National Dental Care dentist, who will then make sure they fit you and are comfortable. Each set is made of a clear and sturdy medical plastic, and should be worn night and day for two weeks each. You take out your aligner during meals, to drink, and to brush your teeth. The entire Invisalign® treatment can take between six and 18 months, depending on the severity of your problem.
What are the benefits of Invisalign®?
There are many benefits of clear orthodontic aligners. The aligners are comfortable, not causing irritations that can occur with braces. They do not prevent you from eating certain foods, and as they are clear and thin, it is unlikely anyone will even notice you wearing them. Invisalign® treatment will leave you with straighter teeth, without anyone noticing it happening!
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding with a surgical or invasive procedure, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
What is Invisalign®?
The great news is that you can now get straighter teeth without the look of metal braces. For decades, traditional braces have been the only option for adults who wanted straighter teeth. Now there’s Invisalign™. This amazing straightening product is custom-made to suit you perfectly. And because Invisalign™ is nearly invisible, your teeth can be straightened without anyone even knowing.
How does Invisalign® work?
Invisalign® uses 3D computer-imaging technology to show you the complete treatment plan, from the initial position to the final desired position before treatment even starts.
As soon as you are happy with the computer simulation, a series of custom-moulded ‘aligners’ are produced. The clear, removable aligners gradually straighten teeth, positioning them into a wonderful new smile.
As well as being almost invisible, they’re removable. So you can eat and drink whatever you like during your treatment. You’ll also be able to brush and floss as normal.
Invisalign®, like everything, is not always right for everyone. The aligners work extremely well for a vast majority of patients, both adolescents and adults. Invisalign® suits people whose teeth are crowded or have spaces between them, and those whose teeth may have shifted after having worn braces in their youth.
Is Invisalign® as painful as traditional braces?
Much less! Most people experience minor temporary discomfort for a few days at the beginning of each new stage of treatment. This is normal and is usually described as a feeling of pressure. That’s a sign that Invisalign® is working, sequentially moving your teeth to their final destination. This discomfort typically goes away a couple of days after you insert the new aligner.
Why do people prefer Invisalign®?
The convenience and ease of Invisalign® has made it the choice of over half a million people. You can live your normal lifestyle and still end up with an incredible smile, thanks to the comfort, convenience and virtual invisibility Invisalign® provides during treatment.
Be as active as you like! And of course you can remove your aligners for special occasions.
How long does Invisalign® take?
It’s different for everyone. Invisalign® treatment can range from 9 to 18 months, depending on what’s needed to get your smile straight and beautiful. Your dentist or orthodontist will determine the time frame and let you know before starting treatment.
