Getting a Same-Day Crown: How Does It Work?

Today, advancements in technology mean that getting a dental crown is faster and easier than ever before. In fact, you can now get a dental crown in a single appointment at selected NDC Group practices, using a digital process called CEREC (also known as Same-Day Crowns).

With CEREC, getting a dental crown to replace a damaged or missing tooth is quick, safe and effective. Here’s all you need to know about getting a same-day crown, so you can skip the waiting time and get back to normal faster.

What is CEREC?

CEREC is short for ceramic restoration - a progressive digital system for generating all-ceramic fillings, onlays and crowns in a single dental visit.

Not only is CEREC a great option for repairing a broken or decayed tooth or improving the function and appearance of your natural teeth - it’s also a quick and convenient solution that allows you to have your new crown manufactured and fitted on the day of your appointment, making it ideal for people who are busy and time-poor.

How long does CEREC take?

Previously, the process of creating and fitting a dental crown would take days or even weeks. Aside from a long wait time, the process of molding, manufacturing and fitting a dental crown could be stressful and frustrating for the patient.

Now, with CEREC’s Same-Day Crown technology, this procedure can often be performed in just a couple of hours, so you can have your brand new crown fitted in a single session.

How do Same-Day Crowns work?

Same-day crowns with CEREC technology involve three simple steps:

  1. First, your dentist will prepare the tooth, then use the CEREC device to scan your teeth in order to take a digital impression.
  2. Next, with the aid of CAD technology, the dentist will design your restoration - you’ll even be able to see what your new tooth will look like.
  3. Now all that needs to be done is to manufacture the crown using computer-aided milling and 3D printing technology, which enables the crown to be custom-made and fitted on the day.

What are the benefits of Same-Day Crowns?

The obvious advantage of CEREC is the speed of the procedure, which means you can have your dental crown fitted on the day of your appointment with no need for long waiting times or follow-up appointments (unless there’s a problem with your crown). It usually means less injections too.

CEREC dental crowns also offer a number of other benefits, including being highly durable, environmentally-friendly, and more cost-effective than traditional crowns. Plus, the advanced digital technology of CEREC gives dentists much more control over the final results.
