Lead Dentists

Dr. Owen Jenkins
Lead Dentist
Dr. Jenkins qualified in 2002. He has a particular interest in implant surgery and restoration, wisdom teeth, crowns, veneers and full mouth cosmetic rehabilitation. He has been an integral part of Dental Centre Maroochydore since 2006. Having practised as a dentist in Maroochydore for 20 years, Owen has extensive experience and advanced postgraduate training in dental implant surgery and restoration, bone and soft tissue grafting, wisdom tooth removal, crowns, veneers and complex full-mouth rehabilitation. Visit our Smile Gallery to see a selection of Owen’s dental implant, cosmetic dentistry and restorative treatment outcomes. Owen graduated in 2002 with awards as the top clinical student in Restorative Dentistry, Periodontology and Prosthetics. He subsequently undertook postgraduate training positions in oral and maxillofacial surgery, advanced restorative dentistry, periodontology and sedation dentistry. He has continued to pursue advanced training throughout his career, completing the year-long Master Clinician Program in Implant Dentistry through the Global Institute for Dental Education and Loma Linda University in California, with additional certification as an Aesthetic Master Clinician. In 2019, he was awarded the Diploma in Implant Dentistry by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh following its rigorous examination and assessment process. Owen is passionate about continuing education and evidence-based dentistry. Alongside his clinical work, he lectures and mentors other dentists in implant dentistry and also teaches courses in dental implant surgery and restoration. He has extensive experience caring for patients who are anxious or nervous about dental treatment and regularly provides treatment under intravenous sedation. He also performs oral surgery and dental implant procedures under general anaesthetic at Nambour Selangor Private Hospital. Above all, Owen believes that good dental care starts with trust. He takes the time to explain treatment options clearly, answer questions and remove as much fear and uncertainty from dental treatment as possible. Outside dentistry, Owen enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle with his family. A former rugby union player, he remains a keen rugby supporter and is heavily involved in surf lifesaving. He is a volunteer patrol captain at Alexandra Headland Surf Lifesaving Club and was named Lifesaver of the Year in 2025.

Dr. Ian Watson
Lead Dentist
Dr. Watson has been a dentist since 1986 and is as passionate about his patients and dentistry as when he first started. Each month he spends many hours maintaining and extending his knowledge and skills at lectures and courses to ensure the best treatment for any dental problem you have. Ian understands that while the “gold standard” of treatment would be preferable, circumstances and budget do not always allow for this, so Ian offers alternatives where possible. Ian has extensive experience in many fields in dentistry: cosmetics, implants, crowns and bridges, and with a special interest in root canal therapy (endodontics). He understands that a lot of people are nervous about coming to the dentist, so Ian offers the option of having treatment carried out with sedation under the care of a Medical Doctor. This means you are relaxed and don’t remember the procedure. Ian qualified as a dentist in Western Australia and has been on the Sunshine Coast over 30 years, with the last 16 years at the Dental Centre Maroochydore. He loves the coast and intends to live here for the rest of his life with his wife Janelle. Ian’s personal interests include walking the dog (Charlie) and building and restoring furniture.
