Dr. Michael Dent
After graduating from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, I moved to Lismore in 1980 and have been practicing here ever since. Since receiving my degree, I have always maintained a keen interest in continuing dental education, and I am up to date with current treatment in all areas of general dentistry. The importance I place on education flows into my practice, and our whole staff undertake the Prime Practice Course.
I chose to work in dentistry as it seemed to be a good way to help people achieve, and maintain good health. It is very rewarding to be able to get people out of pain at one end of the treatment spectrum and at the other end help benefit their self-image by improving the appearance of their teeth. We have a large family orientated Practice with a very happy staff. We have always made a point of having good, up to date equipment and making sure that we have the training to use it to its full potential. Personally, I work hard to be a non-judgemental dentist, and empathise with my patients’ fears and dental anxieties so that together we can achieve their dental goals.
Outside of the practice, I have been involved with a variety of local sporting clubs and was on the board of a local disability organisation.
Dr. Ken House
I graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Dental Science, and since then have pursued my dental education by completing post-graduate studies in Dental Sleep Medicine, and additional study and training in CAD/CAM dentistry and Advanced Implant Restoration. I was the sole owner of a private dental practice in North West Victoria, before joining Star Family Dental as the Practice Principal/Owner where I have been ever since.
I have always had a long interest in health and working to help people using science, and also my hands. In particular, I am interested in dental sleep medicine, implant restorations, and CAD/CAM crown and bridge dentistry. I believe in placing a strong emphasis on preventative dentistry, and a team based approach incorporating dental auxiliaries and specialists. As part of the National Dental Care team at Star Family Dental, I am enjoying the long established relationships with patients and staff, and the relaxed and warm feel of the practice.
Personally, I work hard to make sure patients believe I am listening genuinely to their concerns, explaining their treatment options and providing thorough comprehensive dentistry of a high quality in a caring gentle manner.
Outside of the practice, I have been a President of the Australian Dental Association (NSW Far North Coast Branch) and an inaugural member of the Northern Rivers Dental Study Club. I devote time to being involved in Dental Rescue days to help disadvantaged patients.

Dr. Emma Coulter
Dentist | BDS
I graduated from Bristol University in the UK and have worked at Bournemouth in the UK and many areas in
Australia, including Lismore, Lennox Head (where I live), Sydney (in orthodontics) and Maclean.
I enjoy working at National Dental Care in Lismore because of the great staff and the modern equipment. The staff make it not only efficient to work here but also fun at the same time.
Having been in practice now for 12 years, I have developed my dentistry skills through extensive clinical experience and further study. I am a very practical person and enjoy working with my hands. I also love working with people of all walks of life and dentistry combines these two together well. I take pride in my work and always strive to achieve the best results possible. I also have a lot of experience under my belt, and my patients tell me I am good at putting them at ease.
Outside of dentistry, my main love is art. I love to do anything from photography to painting in acrylics and cake decorating. I have made cakes for a few weddings and several birthday parties. I believe everything should be enjoyed in moderation, including sweet treats!
I also love to surf, run with my dogs as well as slow it down with pilates, yoga and meditation.
I am a massive animal lover and environmentalist. I regularly give money to the World Land Trust (to which David Attenborough is patron). I also give my time and money to WIRES and other animal charities around the world.
I have two dogs – a chocolate Labrador and a rescue dog (Labrador/Greyhound). My partner and I are currently building a house in Lennox Head with a mind to building enclosures for wildlife rehabilitation.

Dentistry has given me the opportunity to provide a service to others, and to be a part of the health industry in Australia. I love working in all areas of general dental practice. I am lucky to be a part of such a supportive team, in such a friendly atmosphere. In my work, I aim to meet the needs of my patients in a friendly yet professional manner.
When I am not working, I enjoy camping, running, cycling and family time with my three boys. I also devote time to being a scout leader, and a committee member of the Byron Bay runners.
