Dr Jan Safranek
Lead Dentist
Dr Jan Safranek graduated from the University of Newcastle in the UK in 1996 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery. Following a year in general dental practice, he spent three years working in hospital positions with a particular focus on oral and maxillofacial surgery. During this time, he completed further postgraduate study and gained Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1999.
Jan moved from London to Byron Bay in 2004 and has been caring for patients in the local community ever since. In 2010, he further developed his interest in implant dentistry by completing the GIDE Master Clinician Program in Implant Dentistry, with training undertaken in Sydney and Los Angeles.
With 30 years of experience in dentistry, Jan enjoys all aspects of general dental care but has a particular interest in dental implants, restorative dentistry and the management of more complex cases. He especially enjoys bringing together different aspects of dentistry to restore worn, damaged or missing teeth and to help patients maintain their natural teeth wherever possible.
His approach is centered on careful diagnosis, prevention and long-term treatment planning. He believes patients should understand their dental problems and the different options available to them, allowing treatment decisions to be made collaboratively and without unnecessary pressure. While committed to providing dentistry to a high clinical standard, he aims to keep appointments friendly, relaxed and as comfortable as possible.
Having lived and worked in the Byron Bay area for more than 20 years, Jan has particularly enjoyed the long-term relationships he has developed with his patients and their families, in many cases caring for several generations of the same family.
Outside dentistry, Jan enjoys cycling, swimming, surfing, rowing, snowboarding and playing guitar. He and his wife Helen have three sons and continue to enjoy the outdoor lifestyle that originally brought them to the Northern Rivers more than two decades ago.
